About Hume Engineers
Hume Engineers has been providing structural engineering services on the central coast since 1993 and recently celebrated 20 years in business in 2013. We credit this longevity and success to our philosophy of providing excellent client service and creative engineering solutions which have a foundation in constructability and efficiency.
Hume Engineers was started by Thom, a central coast native, in 1993. After working for other engineers in southern California, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, Thom opened his own office to pursue projects throughout the central coast. Prior to that, Thom worked in the construction industry with his father and then attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. These past engineering and construction experiences helped develop the philosophy that focused on providing efficient engineering solutions that can be easily constructed. Another key aspect of the philosophy is teamwork; we believe effective communication and collaboration are essential to successful projects. Our focus on communication starts with initial design meetings with the client, continues through our production of comprehensive construction documents and finishes with providing support throughout the construction phase of the project. Collaboration is integral at each of these phases to allow the architectural vision to be achieved and to work with the contractors to deal with changes and unforeseen conditions in the field.
Our experience consists of an extensive history of custom residential projects as well as commercial, educational, hospitality and healthcare projects.
